100 CENTRE COURT
Our efforts aimed to transform the built environment and social interactions of the courthouse to communicate respect, give court users a voice, help them understand the process, and show neutrality in decision-making. Respect, voice, understanding, and neutrality are core tenets of “procedural justice,” a powerful concept that research shows to be influential in improving compliance with court orders, decreasing recidivism, and improving public trust.
To create signage in an existing 1920’s court building we used a visual learning system that using color and layout. The system transpired through each signage - teaching the viewer throughout that blue signals instruction rather than information.
